While I certainly agree (and think it obvious) that men didn sit back 10,000 years ago, and choose to create a patriarchy, I don buy the hunter gatherer explanation, as a complete explanation for the question. For one thing, modern agriculture and cities have been around for thousands of years now, so hunter gatherers are mostly obsolete (going back 8,000+ years in the middle east for instance) and we don really see true matriarchies in the way that a patriarchy is according to the definition “a system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it”. There are certainly societies where families are traced through the female line (a different definition of the term matriarchy) and there are other cultures where women were the undisputed leaders (Polynesian? Iroquois), but even in those societies the men were not excluded from the power structures, they were just excluded from the top job.

I Bianconeri (“the Black and Whites”) were to Italian calcio what the New York Yankees are to American baseball. No Italian club has won more Serie A championships (35), and no Italian club sports as distinctive colors as the vertical stripes yes, black and white on Juve’s home kits. Before I came to cheer the likes of Lou Brock and Ted Simmons of the St.
